How to trim your grocery bill?
When you buy an item that you use long term, over and over again, until it wears out or something better is coming on the market, you probably don't care too much about the cost. On the long run, you will eventually get your money's worth, out of that particular item.
But when we talk about the groceries, that's a different story. You shop around, buy what you need or what you like, you eat, than you have to start all over again. Because you've got to eat.
That's why to be prepared and vigilant and to have a shopping strategy on prices, coupons are the answer. You can save big money on all kind of brands, like groceries and other household items, that you have to use almost on a daily bases.
First thing to do is to get a little organized, to know what to buy and what not to. For example, if you go shopping without a shopping list, you might end up buying groceries or other items, that you already have in your refrigerator or cupboard, or your pantry. If you will take just a little extra time before you go out the door shopping, look around in your kitchen, and see what you have, first. Then make a list of what you need.
Otherwise you will end up buying what you already have, or because the store will place the Items strategically on the shelves, so that they will become impulse items to move them out. Don't blame them! They are in business to make money, but you don't have to fall for that. Buy only what you need or what you want.
Canned foods are okay, for times of emergencies, because of their long term shelf life. But nothing beats a good old home cooking from scratch. It is much cheaper and a hole lot healthier. The Internet is loaded with great cook books and free recipes. Google alone has tons of them. You can save a bundle!
To save even more, buy generic vs. branded items. You'll find out that they will taste just as good as name brands. But if they are on sale, and you can print out coupons, you will be well ahead of the game. With careful consideration and careful searching, you can end up getting some of the items free, when you use the coupon wisely.
If you like to cook and want to save even more, buy in bulk. The beans are in different sizes, kinds, prices, etc., and can go a long way to feed any family size. Rice, sugar, fresh fruits and vegetables, too.
To save even more, if you have a passion and like to garden, you can grow fresh fruits and vegetables yourself. The fruits and vegetables can't be any fresher than that, when you pick them with your own hand and only when you need them. It can be done even year round with a little greenhouse. And that in itself can save you a lot of mullah.
Nevertheless, planning wisely and printing coupons can go a long way, in saving you big bucks! So, look at the coupons, and even if you don't want to use them right away, save them in a coupon book to use them later when you need that specific item. Get disciplined and organized in your shopping activity, and you can save big. Remember bigsave-coupons-mart.
